WHO WE ARE

Missionary Sisters of
        Our Lady of Apostles
Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles: women consecrated to God for the proclamation of the Gospel, we commit ourselves for life, through the Vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience, to continue the Mission which the Apostles received from the Lord: to announce the Good News of Salvation to those who do not know Christ yet. Thus we take part directly in the Mission of the Church, while working for the construction of a new world according to the plan of God, particularly in Africa.
Our Institute was founded in 1876 by Fr. Augustine Planque, first Superior General of the Society of the African Missions (SMA) of Lyons (France).  Faithful to the orientations of the Founder, evangelization "ad Gentes" constitutes our unique and exclusive end.
At present we are 710 Sisters of 19 nationalities.
We live in intercultural communities which express, by their internationality, the universal character of  Christ's Church.

Our Lady of Apostles: our name was chosen by our Founder after he had prayed at the tomb of St. Peter in Rome.   It calls to mind the days in the Cenacle, when the Twelve Apostles with Mary the Mother of Jesus persevered in prayer for the coming of the Holy Spirit, before being sent out into the world to announce the Gospel.
